Welcome to the 2024 10th Annual 1vyG Conference

CO-CHAIR

Hi, I’m Gabriel Herrera (he/him), one of the 2024 1vy-G Conference Co-Chairs! I’m a junior from Ripon, California studying Latin American and Caribbean Studies and Architecture. As a Peer Counselor for the past two years at the U-FLi Center at Brown, you’ll find me studying, eating, and probably scream-laughing. Around campus, I advise a cohort of first-year students and teach consent education. I enjoy walking around Providence, finding new bookstores and estate sales, and rollerblading! I’m excited to build a community centered around fun, care, and of course arts and crafts. Can’t wait to meet you!

Hi, I’m Jenn (she/her), one of the Co-Chairs for the 2024 1vyG Conference! I’m a junior from Arizona studying Social Analysis and Research and Computer Science. In my free time, you can find me curating Spotify playlists, taking care of my house plants, or making jewelry. As a Co-Chair for this year’s conference, I’m incredibly excited to learn from other first-generation, low-income students and discover new ways our community can advocate for more first-gen support on our campuses!

OUTREACH CHAIR

Hi, my name is Natalia López (she/her/ella), and I'm from Los Angeles, California! I'm a first-year student tentatively studying History and Ethnic Studies. I would love to explore Political Science, IAPA, Hispanic Studies, APMA, and more here at Brown. I love learning, and it's such a privilege to be here; thus, I joined the 1vy-G team because I want to meet students from shared backgrounds and proudly represent our identities together!

FUNDRAISING CHAIR

Hi! I’m Amy Nguyen (she/her), I am a freshman from Charleston, South Carolina studying cognitive neuroscience and I am serving as the 2024 1vy-G Conference Fundraising Chair! I also serve as the Secretary for First-Gens@Brown. I enjoy frolicking in the grass, yapping, yoga, and sharing meals with the people I love. I am so grateful for the guidance and sense of home I have found at college within the first-generation community and I cannot wait to meet and learn from you all!

PUBLICITY CHAIR

Hi, I'm Kelly Nguyen (she/her), and I am a freshman from Los Angeles, California exploring computational biology, public health, and biotechnology. The U-FLi community at Brown has helped me find home in Providence, empowering me to break through systemic barriers in higher education and grounding me in purpose. Through the 1vy-G Conference, I hope to spread the love, joy, and family the U-FLi center at Brown has given me.

LOGISTICS CHAIR

My name is Michael Ochoa (he/him/él) and I’ll be Logistics Chair this year! I’m a junior from Pawtucket, Rhode Island studying International & Public Affairs that cares deeply about the U-FLi community. I’ve worked in the Center for the past two years, serve as the Brown QuestBridge Chapter President, and absolutely cherish strengthening student solidarity. I look forward to connecting with talented folk from across the country through 1vyG to celebrate our amazing identities as undocu-plus, first-generation, and low-income scholars.

RECRUITING CHAIR

Hi! My name is Natalie (she/her) and I am the recruitment chair for the 2024 1vy-G Conference! I am a first-gen, low-income junior from Queens, New York City, studying education and psychology on a pre-law track. Outside of academics, I am involved with Brown’s QuestBridge chapter, La Alianza Pre-Law, and student government, as well as serving as a first-year adviser. Around campus, you can find me playing the violin with our very own Mariachi band, or exploring Providence’s sushi spots. I am so excited to be a part of this team, and I can’t wait for what’s to come :)
